What's Stock Android? Pros and Cons of Stock Android

Android users sometimes may hear or saw the word Stock Android. First of all we want to know, What is Stock Android? It’s the Original or Pure os from Google that doesn’t include any customizations. As the technology grows more mobile companies are started to use customized os version to deliver better experience to users. For example top brand Samsung using TouchWiZ UI, Lenovo using Vibe UI, Xperia UI for Sony mobiles, OxygenOS for OnePlus, Sense UI for HTC, ColorsOS for Oppo, ZenUI by Asus and more are there.

Only few brands like Moto, Google, BlackBerry etc. are still retaining original Stock Android on their devices. Google’s Nexus and Pixel range of handsets are released with Stock Android only. Because of its User Interface any users can recognize and adapt it to the interface. Also I am not criticizing the users who use the Custom OS versions. To provide advanced options and features to customers some brands are customizing the os. Here we are going to see the advantages and disadvantages of stock android.

Pros of Stock Android:

  • Simple User Interface that can be easily understandable by users.

  • Whenever Google release or announce new Android OS upgrade it will be first available for this Stock android. While custom os users want to wait for the official roll out from the manufacturers. Sometimes it may release with bugs and takes some time to fix.

  • Regular security patch & bug fix update will be released to prevent from hackers and intruders.

  • It will not come with unwanted apps that can’t be uninstalled without rooting the device. The unnecessary apps may automatically update and occupies the storage. Then you will get no storage error when try to install new apps.

  • Some Bloatware on other OEM’s will reduce the device performance, but in stock version it will not be included.

  • Stock OS can be installed on any android smartphones and doesn’t bit any requirements. Some custom OEM’s will require minimal system requirements.

Cons of Stock Android:

  • Custom OEMs are having redesigned user interface, themes, updated settings menu and more options. But these features will not be available in stock android.

  • You may miss some advanced features in stock version like Gestures, managing dual social accounts, app lock and more.

  • Don’t expect advanced camera features like makeup effects, real time filters, group selfie modes and more.

  • To improve the usage time Third Party OEMs mostly focus on battery saver features. For example Extreme power saving mode on samsung, Ultra Stamina mode on Sony and more are available. But on stock android there will be a simple battery saver mode that doesn’t include any modes.
