Sony brand has started to roll out new software update for its three flagship smartphones – Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact. It will update the android security patch level of these handsets to January 1 2018. The new build number for all these three smartphones are same 47.1.A.12.34. The firmware may also fix the security flaws and known bugs. Other than the security patch it doesn’t bring any new features for these mobiles.
Earlier Sony had confirmed the Spectre and Meltdown issues will be fixed by the January month patch i.e. January 5, 2018 or later. Current security update clearly says they didn’t release the patches for those vulnerabilities right now.
Sony is now pushing this security update for Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact and XZ Premium via OTA. Some users are already installed this update on their devices. Probably the OTA roll out will take some time to reach all devices. So stay quiet and wait for your turn, if you can’t be calm then tap the Settings menu and check for software update under the about phone option.
